Default has any of you install the springs your self??

Has anybody here installed aftermarket springs by your self (or with a helper)?? I just got my neuspeed springs and not sure if I should attempt to install the springs on my car my self. Suggestions?? if I were to do it my self, what would I need??

also anybody from bay area know a good shop (prefered hook up price) to install the springs.

I also need to align the tires after the installation of springs right??

Could be very dangerous if one of those springs lets go whilst under tension - I'd leave this job to a specialist.

I have done it more than once and it is a lot of work even if you have all the proper tools. Effective spring compressors are not readily available so most have to make to with cheap loaner/rental units than are difficult. Unless you have an experienced help and/or plenty of time it is not a recommended home project.

thread #1

thread #2

i'm dropping my car off at my "usual" body shop tomorrow (fri, 11/2) to change the spring.
i heard that it takes a lot of time and so much hassle. it's quiet dangerous too. (the guy says if the spring pops out from the compressor, it can blow your hand off... )

It's not worth the time and effort to do it yourself, not unless you have the right tools and alot of time. I have spent about 4 to 5 hours helping my friend with the springs install, and when we were done. ONE OF THE SPRING WAS INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN......funny when I think about it now.....but..don't do it yourself.

I've installed it twice now on the S2000. 1) Comptech coilover springs 2) Zeal B6's.

The job is very time consuming. The springs on the S2000 are not that compressed, but nonetheless it is not recommended as a home project.

A highly recommended shop is Custom Alignment in Mountain View, CA. I just had my alignment done over there and it is excellent!!

PM me if you want details. I'm in NorCal too.

I did my Comptech's myself...but I have installed springs on a couple dozen cars before.

If you have never done it before...I suggest you take it to a shop.

Be careful...like "What The" said...the stock springs are not that compressed, but enough to knock out your tooth or put a good dent in your car!

I did my first set on my S2000 and then went to my Focus and did those... I used a pair of $19.00 spring compressors. If you take your time, it will be a job well done. At least you have piece of mind that it was done right.

Then again I have a different viewpoint of my S2000... I got it to be a project/hobby car and to take apart...

i had done it on rx-7 and acura TL. it's definitely not worth the time and effort even if you got the right tools. if you have never done it before, you are risking your life and car to safe a few bucks. get a pro to do it for you.
