Are hardtop strikers needed for 04+ cars?
So I was reading one thread about just replacing the factory strikers with hardtop strikers then some of the guys said that 02+ have the same thickness on the strikers as the hardtop ones.
Then I read another thread where it says that it affects all year s2ks and NO to the 02+ strikers being the same.
SO which one is it?
Do I need to replace my 04+ strikers with hardtop ones or can I just do the washer method and achieve the same results?
Or are my strikers in need of replacement since they dont have the same thickness as the hardtop strikers?

my 02 s2k did not have the hardtop strikers, I just recently placed them on my car. The only way I knew was by looking at pictures of both striker designs. The difference was not huge though, but there was a bit. My HT needed tightening on the infamous driver side sitting high issue that OEM HT's seem to have. I put on the HT strikers and I removed all shims under the latch, and added shims to the strikers, all three things were needed to properly tighten down my HT.

I think hardtop strikers were slightly larger than the ones that came on my 05.
However, switching to hardtop strikers didn't make any difference on my car.

If you look at a parts breakdown they list a soft top and hard top strikers for all years. This is for an 05 model. See item 62.

I looked at the diagram and I see that they both are item 62 but have different part numbers. I don't know for a fact that they are the same but maybe that diagram was made so there would be no redundancy.
