Default hardtop catcher switch question

on the driver side rear catcher (MY 01) there is a little switch and wire harness and i haven't been able to find out what it is for. is it a softtop failsafe or a trigger for the defroster?
i am swapping my oem hardware out for izzy brackets and i want to make sure the switch isn't required for the defroster.
thanks

it connects into the defroster wiring harness for the oem hardtop, the switch on the driver side is a failsafe so the softop can't be operated when the hardtop is in place. While it connects into the wiring harness it is not directly related to the defroster mechanism so it has no effect on the defroster and vice versa.
