Hard top question
Hi,
Excuse the noobie question!
Just picked up my 2002 GT yesterday and having driven it 450miles to get home I've noted an annoying noise from the car. Bought the car from a VW dealer and they have done the full multi point check, MOT and service. They did say that had removed the Hard top to check soft top so I'm hopeful that it hasn't been replaced properly.
I reckon its the hardtop, but looking for confirmation. It appears that the back of the top is noisy when driving slowly, over bumps then again a faster speeds hitting the occasional bump. For the majority of the journey there was no noise at all, so I've ruled out suspension issues.
Due to work commitments I'll not get the hard top off until weekend. Just looking for some reassurance

My hardtop was noisy too. I ended up putting some silicone grease (don't need alot) on the hardtop gasket, AND the black trim piece on our car. This eliminated the hardtop noise. Your soft top rattle is probably the latches rattling. I've used rubber bands (elastics to you guys) wrapped around the latching assembly to hold everything together. These do degrade in the sun, so I now use 'tie wraps', which I just cut off in the spring.
