Default Hamp Synergy Oil Filter bottoms out?

I noticed when doing an oil change last night that the Hamp Synergy filter that i bought in the group buy seems to bottom out when tightening. You can get it to a point where it won't turn anymore and i'm not sure it is tight enough. My car is not the only one as this was first brought to my attention by david1 before we changed all my fluids last night.

Anyone else notice this?

Sometimes the gasket stays on the car when you unscrew the old filter and if you do not remove it it prevents the new filter from being installed properly...

I didn't notice that problem, but unfortunately I wasn't the one who actually put the filter on my car. The guy who did though didn't mention anything weird and it appeared to twist-on just like any other filter. Maybe you got one that wa somewhat malformed?

I've changed this filter myself and not noticed a problem yet - didn't seem to "bottom out" and it hasn't leaked yet (500 miles so far).

If there were two gaskets wouldn't you be less likely to "bottom out"?

There isn't a second gasket on there and it would most likely prevent this scenario like Ravenwork suggested.

This problem occurs with more than just my car. Another local owner told me to look out for this before i ever changed my oil.
