HAMP H1540-RTA-505 or OEM 15400-PCX-004 Oil Filter?
Hey S2Ki Members I have been searching for the past couple of hours across the net trying to find a conclusive yes or no to this question so I thought I would ask it here and hopefully would be of benefit for others with the same question.
Knowing that the OEM Honda Filter with Part No. 15400-PCX-004 is the correct part as originally fitted out of the factory from Honda, this particular filter is apparently difficult to find through certain dealerships (even harder here in Australia) is the HAMP filter with part no. H1540-RTA-505 suitable for the S2000?
I've seen a lot of discussions comparing similar filters but no real solid advice from others who have used this HAMP filter on their own S2000 for any significant duration of time to really tell if there is any negative effect.
Common sense tells me to source the right OEM filter as I'm sure that will be the advice of the wise here on the forum but would still like to find an answer to this question for the sake of knowing once and for all.
Thanks in advance.

Sure, one can cut a filter open and look at the construction and base ones dicision on this.
The HAMP filters are IIRC of good build quality.
The size of the filter is another indication to not use it, if its smaller than OEM I would not recommend to use it (but that's just me)
If the same filter (part#) is used in other cars / engines I would not recommend to use it, as Honda uses the PCX exclusively in the S2000 (but that is just me)
Real data on engine wear caused by a filter used according to a reasonable service interval is not available, as far as I know.
Negative effects, as in: filters backing-off causing fires, wrong installation and what-not is (I think) not what you're looking for.
Most use OEM for piece of mind.
IOW: with OEM you can not go wrong.

I agree, OEM is probably the better option. Not sure if Majestic Honda ships overseas but check out their website. Or check EBAY, I bought a pack of 3 with washers off there for I think around $30 or so.

Can't go wrong with OEM but there are a lot of other good filters out there. I currently run a Royal Purple(from Summit Racing). It replaced a Fram unit. Not sure what is available "down under" but I can tell you who would. Send a PM to "Muz" here on the board. You could also scroll down in Forums and post a question on the Australia Forum. For general research and ideas put "oil filter" in the search box here on the Under the Hood Forum.

Or you could do what I did I went with a oversize filter from Baldwin. I run a Baldwin B7042 oil filter and have over 45k miles with them on the S and it does the job very well.
Here are some pic's of the Baldwin, Honda and Napa(Wix) oil filters

Take a look to see if you can get Baldwin filters where you live.

p.s. the B202 will also fit the S, its the same size as the B7042 but has a higher by-pass spring.

Thanks a million for the suggestion guys its greatly appreciated
As it turns out I dropped into my local dealership and they did a stock level search and found 37 OEM 15400-PCX-004 in the Honda Aus warehouse so I ordered me 4 of em' just to have handy as they defiantly seem to be the simple go-to answer when it comes to what filter should I use for my S2000.
With that in mind though I'm always keeping my eyes open and listening ears on when it comes to all suggestions.
I have been using Mugen's oil filter on my FN2 Type-R as it has been my weekend treat to drive (and I do enjoy a thorough drive), I've recently bought this S2000 as the "every other weekend" car but more or less because I remember when they were first released and I loved just about everything about what I saw but had no where near the kind of funds to be able to buy one new so some 12 years later I finally decided you know what, I'm gonna do it, I'm buying an S2000 lol.
So I did and here we are and I'm now talking the same language as you fine members
Thanks again guys!

Of course not. All people ever provide (on this topic and fluids and others) is anecdotal evidence which isn't suitable for conclusive decisions. There's rarely one best option that outshines all the others despite what many appear to expect. There are a lot of good options out there so there will never be a single "conclusive" answer on any such topics.
