Gunk on intake came lobes
I was performing a valve adjustment on an AP2V1 with 65k and noticed this strange gunk that appeared only on the intake came lobes. It also seemed to be all over the valve cover. I thought this was a cause for concern as the intake cam lobes showed more wear markings than the exhaust cam lobes. Any ideas? I am hoping it is oil change neglect.

Bad case of varnish/oil deposits, with some corrosion. , unsure of why it affects the intake more than exhaust though.

Looks like oil breakdown. What brand & weight of oil do you use? How many miles you go, between changes?
Thanks!
Thanks!

PVC system sucking in moisture and fuel vapors and depositing it on the intake cam, combined with short trips(which don't let the vapors and moisture evaporate), letting the car sit for extended periods, and or lack of oil changes.

Thanks all for the comments. I don't know the previous history of the car and nor does the owner. The only thing he knows is that the car was neglected, which is aligned with your suggestions.
