On the dropped valve, the retainer will be floating around on top of the head under the VC.
What is the status of this one floating retainer?
Typically the keepers and the broken tip of the valve will still be in the retainer.

I think the guys chucked that bit away. Couldn't find it. The car has always had a bit of tappet noise. Trouble is honda actually did the valve timings in June so I suppose if there was any damage then it would have been noticed?

Broken retainers are impossible to spot, unless you are specifically looking for them.
So you can be guaranteed if they were broken at the time of your valve adjustment, the dealer did not see it.
Do your best to recover all bits and pieces, this way you know for sure what happened.
I'm sure you don't want it to happen again...finding underlying causes is something that not many people care to do anymore. S2k engines do not just let go, there is ALWAYS a weak link somewhere. A good tech will find it, and prevent it.
