Default Gruesome dropped valve photos.

I thought you guys might 'enjoy' looking at these. So a couple of weeks ago I spent a fair bit installing a new clutch, less than 100 miles later during a test drive the engine goes bang!

I had decided that I would get the clutch done and sell, so already entered in a deal for an E92 M3. I had a trade in value even if the private party did not buy my S2000. Now I have nothing to trade in! Particularly disappointing as the car did not let me down once in 4 years until the clutch. The engine has basically dropped a valve and all hell broke loose...............

Who knows, I am not a mechanic but I guess a retainer was damaged or cracked for a while and eventually dropped the valve into the cylinder. Probably not too much room in there for it when in V-tec...........

Every time I think about selling a car something breaks.

3 years of having my truck I was thinking about getting a different one, and within a week, the a/c diverter valve stopped working (so it only blew hot air) and the airbag light came on, and is still on.

I know the feeling, I have only ever owned 3 cars and never actually managed to sell one. My first car a deer jumped out and wrote it off, my second car's engine blew (known fault in Nissan D22 engines) and now this. Bad times indeed.

Being that you dropped an exhaust valve, a broken retainer is almost guaranteed not the cause.

It seems like a major over-rev.

Yeah that's a possibility, I have never shifted down accidentally though, almost impossible with that gear box unless you can't shift IMO. I did drive it quite hard during the test drive because understandably he wanted to make sure it could still get up there. Was nowhere near the limiter though. Could this damage have been caused prior or when the damage occurs does it just go pop straight away? I did hit the limiter once when the clutch first started slipping.

There is no damage to any of the other retainers.
