Default Grinding coming from trans in low gear low rpm.

As the title states, I'm getting a lot of transmission noise when in low gears and low rpm, i.e. in a parking lot or slowly accelerating from a stop. In my opinion, it sounds like a bad bearing somewhere, and it seems to be coming from the trans tunnel. Doesn't happen when I rev in neutral, not proportional to the speed of the car so it's not a wheel bearing. It's loudest in 2nd gear at about 2500 rpm when on and off the throttle. It's a loud enough noise to make me concerned, and I'm bringing it in to a shop tomorrow to have them look at it. What could this be coming from? Only ~46,000 miles. Has anyone else experienced this?

How much did it cost you to get it rebuild/replace? Also, how were you able to identify the problem?
