Default Grind from 1st to 2nd shift FIXED

Hey guys,

I know a lot of people have this problem so I figured I would let you know what I did. Unfortunately it is nothing new and probably something that you already tried but hey...

I got the car last summer with 46K Km on it. The 1st to 2nd gear shift was grinding a bit, nothing crazy but enough to be enoying so last weekend I changed the tranny oil with OEM honda and damn! So much smoother, no grind at all!

I don't know how long this is going to last but if you have the grind issue and have not changed your oil, DO IT!

Should always switch out fluids when you first get the car (unless the records you get show it's been done recently). The shifting should stay smooth for a while. Glad you got it fixed!

The new fluid will start to deterioriate as the miles go on, so try to change it if you feel it getting worse. I do mine once a year regarless of the mileage, cheap maintenance and the tranny fluid does shear down quickly in viscosity. You might want to consider the differential fluid change next if the previous owner left the tranny fluid in it for too long as the differential has a shorter change interval than the tranny.

Good work on the fluid change, glad it worked for you.

Yes, I change mine every year or two based on mileage. I have Amsoil in now, prob my favorite so far, and I've had GM, Honda and Amsoil to date.

Little update on this.

The first to second gear grind is definitely gone but a week after I changed the oil, the first gear started to pop out when the car was cold. It only happened twice but it scared the shit out of me big time! I read a lot of threads about this, but they suggested all sort of reasons. So I just went with my guts feeling and past experience and added more oil in the trany. Originaly I followed OEM specs but now I added maybe 350ml. I basically could not fit anymore as it was driping... The gear never poped after and the trany is SO smooth!!!

So if you have odd trany issues, play with your oil lol!

the pop out of first when cold is a natural for these cars...it happens to me once and a while when cold only...scares me too....operator error.
