That's what I am using at Swiftoy's recommendation. He said its a more robust formulation than the 75w90. I drained the old mobil 1 75w90 yesterday and it looked like there was a little piece of a bearing band on the magnetic drain plug. I'm considering going with Severe Gear 250 next time.

would it help quit down the diff? i have had royal purple 75-90 in it for about 6k now and its making some chatter that i dont like any more. doing a change as soon as the stuff i ordered comes in. so is the 80-90 not any good? because i thought thats what weight was recommended?

check out the Amsoil 75w-110 Sever gear gear oil , it is a better match to the SAE90 spec of our diff. Their 80w90 fluid is at the lower (thinner) end of the SAE90 spec in terms of hot temp viscosity (100 degrees C). Their 75w-110 is in the mid to upper range of the SAE90 spec in terms of hot temp viscosity, it also has better cold temp flow and a higher viscosity index. I think it's an all around better fluid if you are looking at the Amsoil brand.

Amsoil 75w-140 might be good for upgraded aftermarket diff gears, 250 would be overkill unless you have a real need for it.

SAE 250 is overkill for an OEM diff.

SAE 75W-110 or 75W-140 is what I would use in an OEM diff.

I read on the BITOG forums that its not really a SAE 250 but it protects like one and pours better than a straight 140.

This sounds a bit like Red Line Oil's Heavy Shockproof gear oil (although I don't know if it has the same whopping dose of moly) which "protects like a SAE 250".

I would consider both oils to be band-aids for basket-case diffs in desperate need of a rebuild ... unless you KNOW your specialty application specifically calls for an oil that thick.
