You're right,
If i have to have a machine shop make a spacer for me i'll bring the OEM one i already have in the diff. to make sure they use the same material.

Thanks

The shim is hardended steel. Don't bother going to a machine shop unless they can do heat treating. The shim is ultra precise. Use the thin shim, and stack a hardened shim on top of it. You would need to measure the stack height with a micrometer to obtain the right size.

The job is finished
I went to a machine shop with the final combo of the thin shims supplied by RICK'S and i asked the guy to made a shim to match the total thickness of these and this with a hard material.
When i finaly assembled the ring and pinion with the new shim, i have checked the gear patern and it was perfect. I have set the backlash to .006 and i was ready to close the back cover and put the diff. back to his place.

I was told backlash should be .008

That is what mine were installed to

Also, would have suggested having them cryo-treated before install but . . . . not necessary, just nice to have

Good luck and let us know how much harmonic noise you get OK??

Who specified the backlash? .006 or .008?

Like swtazn97 said ( and it make semse ! ) if you set the backlach at .006 it is possible that after the break-in procedure it will expand to .008 and since he don't have the whinning sound i tought it would be a good idea to try it.
But : I have a whinning, and this, from 40 mph ( very faint noise ) to 80 mph ( with the top up it could be very annoying for some people ) and then, at 85 it completely dissapear
I have this whinning only when cruising not when decelerating.
But this noise doesn't bother me since i know it's not a matter of a ( bad installation ) but a matter of ( gears made to be strong instead of being made to be quiet !
And it is so much more fun to drive the car now !

But it's in U.S. dollars !!! In Canadian it makes 350 with the exchange, the taxes and the duty !!
And it would be useless because the shim i have asked a machine shop to make is thinner than the thiner one in the Honda kit.
But thanks for the info !
