GM Synthetic Manual Transmission Fliud
OK so for the purposes of being curious and trying something different I decided to pick up 2 qts of GM Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid. My guess is that this will be massive overkill but I figure I'd be a giunea pig It's rather expensive, i.e. $12 online $20 at the dealer, so it's going to have to be really good to be worth the cost. That said I'll post my observations in here once I change over.
Now that said, BEFORE I change over I want to do a sanity check. This is a GL4 fluid, so it is supposed to be safe for yellow metals in the transmission. I understand that this may not shift as well as Honda MTF, but I'm interested to experiment, we'll see.
My one question is that is there any reason that this fluid would cause damage to the transmission(I know it's always possible for some increased wear). I've looked around and read what I've found and it does not appear to be but I want to double check. Just want to make sure this canary is still singing at the end of the experiment, not lying dead at the bottom of the cage

Are you sure you didn't get GM Synchromesh Trasmission Fluid? The price sounds pretty high for it, but I haven't heard of a GM Synthetic. In either case, GM Synchromesh Friction Modified is the best oil I've found by far. The regular GM Synchromesh fluid is just marginal.

Found this article before on it(this MTF was designed for the NV4500 tranny)
IS GL-4 OBSOLETE?
By Mike NowickiAll rights reserved
Is a GL-4 rated gear lube really obsolete and who cares? When we go back to the Dodge dealer to purchase some GL-4 manual transmission lubricant, we are asked to pay as high as $25.69 per quart. That

Syntorq is a synthetic GL-4. The reasons for a synthetic version are to enhance shifting problems/harshness at low temperatures and reduced high operating temperatures.

Redline MT-90 is also a synthetic GL-4 rated lube.
Honda specs GL-4 and not GL-5 in the 00-03 manuals for the very same reasons as indicated in the article (yellow metal syncros). I don't have information on the 04 tranny so not sure what's spec'd there since the syncros are said to be different.
