Default Glue for Cat Conv repair?

OK, I know this sound stupid...

I"m one of the guys caught out in my 03 with a bad cat. You know, where the inside panel gets loose and chops the nose of the O2 sensor.

I need to get it smogged quick here in SoCal. It will pass the sniff test fine since the cat works, but, if I can't get to the test place before the nose of the 02 sensor gets chopped off again, I'm out another $50

Is there any type of glue/epoxy/liquid weld stuff, that I can squirt in the cat between the two walls that will hold it in place for just a couple days at the most?

I am by no means an expert on high temp glues, but id say you'd need a spot weld or something, any glue, even apoxy would melt under cat conv heat conditions. Just my .02.

I was thinking that two, but the question is could they do a spot weld without messing up the threads for the 02 sensor?

Borrow another cat from a local fellow member then run a test pipe after the inspection.

Yeah, thought of that, but I'm planning on buying a used OEM cat or the Berk cat. I still like to keep the air clean where I live.

How can you be so sure that the O2 sensor is doomed? Even if this did happen, you can buy an aftermarket sensor for less than 50 bucks( I think). Not much at risk if you choose to do nothing.

Well, I've gone through two. The second broke within a week. My objective is simply to install a new one, drive it until the Drive Status Indicators turn off (required before smogging in CA), then get it smogged. The problem is it make take a day or two for the DSI's to turn off, and I don't want the 02 sensor to break again before then, because then I'm back were I started.

After I get it smogged I don't really care if it breaks cause it's for monitoring only, and doesn't affect engine performance or emissions.

I was talking to my local Honda dealer the other day about know faults on these cars and this problem came up, I didn't take much notice of what he was saying as I don't have this problem, but I do remember him saying something about fixing this problem with a well placed dent from a centre punch. Alternatively, if I was going to weld it, I'd probably drill a few little holes around the outside and weld it in place through the holes, welding the holes up at the same time rather than trying to do it through the o2 sensor hole.

You're probably better off buying an 02 bung and spacing out your 02 sensor. The guys running test pipes do the same.

A while back I drilled 6 holes, evenly spaced on the circumference of the cat, behind the first core, tapped M3 in it and inserted 20mm stainless steel bolts.
Last week I found the core had shifted again and almost ruined the sec O2 again!

IOW all six bolts broke/melted or the core worked its way through them.

The bolts work but it is a short term fix.
