May not matter, but I always jack the front first. That way the car can't roll (with parking brake and gear engaged), if you jack the rear first, you need to be sure it's well chocked at the front.

Good point about making sure the front doesn't roll off the ramp. The one that I use has a concave depression that the tire sits in to help prevent it from rolling off. I find if I drive the rear up on ramps first I cannot fit a jack under the front of the car to reach the center jack point (cross-member).

Just a small comment about cinderblocks.....

True cinderblocks have very different strengths, depending on which side the weight is on. The stong side can easily support an s2000, while the other, is pretty brittle. It's best to use something solid if you don't have jackstands, but I still recommend you buy a set. It's not like they are hard to find or expensive.

There's millions of cars held up by concrete masonry blocks down south

I'm dumbfounded by some of the responses in here. The guy who turbocharged his car can not buy $50 in safety equipment and a floor jack?

Please do yourself a favor and go pick up a nice set of jack stands and a hydraulic jack. I picked up my jack and 2 stands for $40 at Sears

This is the only forum I have seen where there are so many arguments about either jacking up a car or how one oil is the jesus christ of cars and the others are the devil.

Buy a hydro jack from anywhere that will fit under the car and 1 or 2 jack stands. Its a 25-$55 investment.

Buy a low profile jack with a large pad and rubber covering that pad. That way you can lift without scratching anything, and you can lift the car using the diff.

Buy one with a good lifting range that starts out very low. Costco sells aluminum ones for around $125ish. They used to sell an entire aluminum jack and jackstand package for about that much...but I dont think they have that anymore.

Either way, a nice, light, maneuverable aluminum jack with a rubber pad is only $125 or so.

Your car needs to be even for you to do the trans and diff changes. Oil changes should also be done on even ground with this car. I used to jack up only the front.

One day I wanted to do my oil, diff, and trans all at once. So I let the oil drain for a long time till there were no drips. I ate a cheeseburger or something...iduno. Then I jacked up the car via the diff to get all 4 wheels off the ground and another half quart to a quart of oil came out of the oil pan.
