Gearing changes between 00-01 and 02-03 ?
Ok this is what I read...not sure if they are typos or they are correct.
I have an old copy of a R&D mag '00 that compares the s2k, Boxster S, M Roadster and TT
the gearing in the S2k is recorded to be 3.13 (this is from memory...don't have the mags with me at the momment...update later) and first gear tops out at 42mph (this I do remember).
Now I read a very recent edition of C&D (the one they claim got beat by a Mustang...who spent more money on advertising that month) and they claim the gearing is 3.12 and first gear tops out at 50 mph.
Second gear is also different in both mags...
As far as 0-60 and 1/4 times are seconds apart as well
So what is the deal...are they typos or correct...my '01 tops out in first 42 mph...can anyone confirm or deny these claims?
I thought they didn't make any changes to the trannies other than shift linkage and clutches?
Totally confused

Mine is 4.25 (thanks to 225/45/16 rear tires). A bit of manipulation of the gearing though not quite as nice as a set of 4.44's but should work nicely with them as soon as I go that route.

I'm not talking about final drive ratio/rear axle ratio...I am talking about first gear...each gear in the tranny has it's own gearing...this works together with the axle ratio...some cars have a higher gear ratio such as the S2k and others have a lower first gear ratio...(higher the number in reality the lower the gearing is...the higher the gearing the lower the top speed is)

I bet C&D just calculated the top speed using the 1st gear ratio, tire size, final drive ratio, and 9K RPMs, and left out the secondary reduction gear. If the S2000 didn't have a secondary reduction gear, 50 MPH would be right.
