I've skip shifted all my cars and never had a problem....until the S.

I bought it at about 65,000mi. Previous owner never skip shifted. I did it as usual. Within 15,000 mi I lost 5th gear. It was like a brick wall. All the tips and tricks I read on the forum didn't work. I just resigned myself to never having 5th. It's actually pretty easy to get around without it unless you track your car on courses were top speeds are over 115mph or so.

After about another 35,000mi, suddenly I got it into 5th. It was right after I started the car as Billman stated. It barely went in, popped out....over about the next 15 mi and about a couple dozen shifts, it's now like butter again in and out of 5th.

Glad I didn't drop thousands on another tranny!
could you please explain your actions to fix your problem a lil bit more exactyl ?

is the problem with difficult out getting gears an issue of the sync-rings oder something more expensive / bigger???

i do know that skip shifting while downshifting is unhealthy,
bit i didnt know that its unhealthy while upshifting...

are you sure that skipping gears at upshifting is really unhealthy??
Skip shifting only refers to upshiftly. there is nothing wrong with "skip shifting" when downshifting.

Search for posts from an old poster named woodwork, he explains it well.

okay, i will look for it.

but: when you downshift, the synchronisation has much more to do as if you are shifting up

With downshifting, the assumtion is you are rev matching. Meaning you blip the throttle between shift to match the revs. Search for woodwork's posts, they are very informative.

yes, thats right & and i do match the revs when i shift down while driving fast and have to downshift fast too.

it is logical that its unhealthy to shift from 3rd 9000rmp to 6th with 4000rpm for example - clear!
but i dont do that.

if i upshift e.g. from 4th to 6th, then i do it gently and with low rpm.

what i forgot: once in a while when i want to start from a traffic light, its difficult to engage the 1st gear.
with shifting into 2nd and then into 1st theres no problem.

anybody else with that problem?

I never skip shift anything i've owned.

If i just went through some gears and i want to "skip" to 6th, i just row it through each gear til i hit 6th.
