Default Gear whine....

i've always been curious as to what type of noise, if any, is normal in the rear end. i've always noticed some type of whine in my old 03 and my 06. i usually have the radio on or top down, but today, i had the top up, windows up, and radio off(not sure why), and i could notice some whine from the rear around/above 50 mph, only under load. its not loud at all, but its there. with clutch in, on decel, it cant be heard. its noticeable also when cruising, especially in 5th gear. any thoughts?

edit: 10800 miles, 607 put in at 5k.

All S2000 diffs whine to some degree. I can hear them all now because of the time I have spent with differant diffs in my car. Most can't tune into the sound as it has always been there.

The reason the sound is only there while on the throttle is that it is from the drive side of the gear and not the coast side.

Now with that said, if it start to increase with time than you have a problem. If it is steady, you are fine.

I assume it is very slight and you have to try to hear it. If you is overwhelming, you could have an issue.

I can't seem to tune in to the sound either.

I've ran both Mobile 1 75W-90 and then switch to LE607 with no difference in sound about two weeks ago.

yeah, its pretty faint. there seems to be some type of whine in all gears, but this is almost impossible to hear, especially having to be on a very quiet road. i noticed the whine picks its pitch up a bit near 58-65 mph.

Find your local s2k tech from Honda and have him come along for a ride and listen.

i'm not too worried about it, it is pretty hard to listen to, with the top/windows up, radio off. like i said before, it picks up a little around 60mph, a faint whine, which i'm sure could be normal due to things moving faster back there and especially with the amount of sounds this car makes. just trying to get some feedback on what you guys can hear. thanks all for the replies though
