Default 'Gear' noise for 1st 3/4 mile

I've been noticing a 'geary' type of noise for the first 3/4 mile or so when my 2003 is driven away from being cold. OK, how to describe 'geary'..... it sounds like it's coming from the rear, although somewhat difficult to pinpoint. A metal on metal sound, and it disappears after a mile or so. It doesn't sound good, but, I'm a newbie and perhaps this is normal?

I did have the trans & diff fluid changed after I purchased the car several weeks ago by a qualified shop.

Anyone have any ideas?

Correct, the noise goes away after about 1 mile. It concerns me nonetheless. I'm thinking of taking it to my shop & leaving it overnight when my new exhaust arrives and could have them check it out then. It's really difficult to try to explain a noise using the keyboard though.. Maybe I'll take a video and see how the audio clip sounds, and post that it it's audible.

Thanks for the reply!

if it bothers you change the trany and diff fluid, it will dampen the sound, but really unless someone who knows more says otherwise i think that its pretty normal
