Gas Tank Wont Fill

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Mine has been doing it lately and it's a bit frustrating.
It's happened before a few months ago. The low gas indicator light had just turned on, so about 2 gallons left in the tank. I filled up 4 gallons and the auto stop went off. I knew it was incorrect, so I set the trigger to pump more. It filled another 0.5 gallon and stopped. I left it at that. Filled up fine ever since. So I assumed it was the pump.
But now a few months later. It's doing that same thing at nearly every fill up (at different gas stations). Sometimes I continue filling and it will fill another few gallons or to full. Sometimes it just keeps stopping me after filling less than one gallon (nowhere near full tank though). I assume it's clogged pressure regulator exactly like iVTECallday described so I'll take a look. But I'm hoping to get an update for what fixed it for the OP.

Sucking gas fumes with a vaccum? Sounds like a good way to win a darwin award, or am I missing something..

Usually its the fuel not flowing down the car's fuel pipe fast enough, so pressure builds up and the cut off kicks in.
When this happens, take the fuel pump and instead of putting it all the way into the fuel pipe in the car, try and seat it an inch or two back. This can sometimes allow the fuel to flow more freely into the pipe and into the tank, so the spillover safety doesn't kick in.

There was an issue with some ap1's where the fuel filler neck was kinked for some reason. I had it on my car. My fuel cap would jam up before it was fully tight and at gas pumps they would shut off early. I replaced the fuel filler neck and it has been fine since.
As mentioned by GTmotoring do not fill your tank beyond the first click , I was also guilty of filling it up past the first click and that causes issues with the vent tube that runs off the fuel filler neck if it fills with raw fuel.

There was either a recall or a TSB on my '02 for this exact thing, IIRC.

Just an update. I've done this the past two fill ups and had no issues.
