Default gas mileage??

recently, i've noticed that my MPG has dropped a little bit compared to when i first bought my car... i tested what the MPG's were on a few tanks of gas, driving strictly on the freeway... it turns out that im at 20 mpg.. now im wondering if this is because my clutch is really weak now, and my RPM's are noticeably higher... now i'm pretty sure that 20 mpg on the highway is pretty low for S2k's, or am i wrong....

Maybe if you tell us a bit more about your car. Like what year and how many miles and how you drive.

First of all, you can go in your profile and edit your model year. Do you do a lot of city driving (stop and go) as well as cruising on the freeway?

With mixed driving I'm always around 24mpg. On the freeway to Cleveland I get 30-31mpg. If I leadfoot the tank I get 15-16 mpg.

When was the last time that you changed things like plugs & air filter? Maybe replacing those would help the car run more efficiently.

1) Make sure you are accurately determining mileage. It is important to actually measure the amount of fuel consumed and track the numbers of miles driven. Fill the tank and reset the trip meter to 0. Drive the car until you have used most of the gas and then refill the tank. Divide the number of miles driven by amount of fuel to determine mileage. If you are using a different method it may have a lot of error in it, and it's best to average this value over several tank fills.
2) Pay attention to how you drive. My '00 would return 9 mpg on the track and up to 28 mpg on the highway when driven at 70-75 mph. It's overall average street consumption over 53k miles was 24.1 mpg.
3) As your tires wear, they cause an undestimation of miles travelled, but only by a few percent.

I'm not really sure what you meant, but heavily worn tires will make the odometer read MORE miles than were actually travelled. This would inflate the calculated MPG by a small amount.

I didn't look at your profile, but if it is getting a lot colder where you live right now, that can cause a significant reduction in fuel economy.

hmmm ok.. i drive about 90% of the time on the freeway, and i rarely ever push it into VTEC... but yes, the way the i figured how many miles i drove was by resetting the tripometer to 0, and dividing that by the number of gallons... i'll try changing the plugs, but i think when i finally decide on which clutch to go with, im sure that would make a difference, and keep my RPM's a bit lower.....

im also considering buying another street bike for a daily driver.....
