Default Gas Filler Pipe Replacement

I recently experienced the check engine light coming on. First thought was improper gas cap tightening. Also noticed recently that gas cap seemed difficult to turn to tighten. After a while the light went out, so when I brought to Honda they claimed they couldn't retrieve the code, is that right?? They diagnosed problem as defective gas filler pipe and replaced it under warranty (involved dropping gas tank). My question is has anyone experienced this problem ?? Honda claims they haven't seen one before, but I question how many S2000's they've sold/serviced. Also, they seemed pretty quick to diagnose the problem and take on a major repair. They left original gas cap and it does seem to turn normal now, we'll see what happens as repairs were only made a few days ago. My car is a 2002 with only 7,000+ miles so there haven't been too many fillups!!

Defective fuel filler pipes have been reported here (several, I think). The code associated with this is to do with "EVAP". This takes several driving cycles to set a code if the problem is not fixed, so don't get too ecstatic just yet. An EVAP code (as told to me by a Honda tech I trust) is a transient code and if it resets itself, it won't stay in the ECU memory.
