I had that gas cap seal problem too. Tri doing this: Instead of tighning the gas cap from the middle grippy thing....Firmly hold the gas cap from the outside ends and tri doing the 3 click thing. it seals alot better that way.
I did that, until that stopped working too. The problem is in the threads of the filler tube, and all 02 S2000s are potentially affected.

I got the car back. They did the job under warranty. I tried the gas cap and it came off and went back in like a hot knife through butter. So far, so good.

just a quick note on this: some dealerships will require the CEL for this particular problem to be on in order for them to cover it under warranty. It may not be every dealership, but I know of two here where it was required.

There is a Honda service bulletin, (04-002) which addresses this problem for MY 02 & some MY 03's. Some vehicles came with fuel filler tubes with deformed threads for the gas cap. As a result the cap can click before it's seated, causing the check engine light to come on. The fix is to replace the filler neck.
how do you replace the filler neck?

I think you go in through the trunk. The TSB probably gives a description of it -- why is that TSB not on this site? In fact, no 04-xxx TSBs are on the s2ki website. What's up with that?

I just had this problem happen to me this Friday! Honda is going to cover it because of this TSB, which I never knew about.
