Seems like my gas cap comes loose, first time i thought i didnt tighten it up after fill up. Since that time its happened twice, i make sure i tighten and hear a few clicks to be sure its tight, cap looks fine no cracks, rubber gasket is intact. Any one else have this problem ?

It's a 2002 and early 2003 problem. You need to replace the filler neck. Do a search and find the TSB.

Try this it works also. When you put on the cap, grab it on the edge, not by the tab in the middle. You can tighten it much more that way and you may not have to replace the filler. Give it several tight clicks.

There was a tsb on it at one time.

Thanks for the info fltfshr ,i will try it i contacted my honda tech he said they chage gas cap all the time all kinds of hondas, seems like the gas caps are one of hondas weak links.

The TSB is for a deformed fuel filler pipe. A new cap still won't seal on a deformed pipe correctly.

Exactly. You can keep getting new gas caps and work around the problem, or you can just replace the filler neck and never have the problem again.

I had the problem, I never had the filler neck done, but that technique cured it on mine. I don't know if my filler neck is bad or not. I've replaced the cap once since then and it's almost 8 years now.

just tighten as you normally do (3 clicks) then grasp the edge and turn it some more..you will be surprise how much more it will turn and it will seal up..i do this all the time since mine comes lose every now and then and throws a check engine code..ever since i did the trick it never came lose and no check engine!!

On my O2, I got a new cap a few years ago. I put extra effort in screwing the darn thing down past the point of "casual" resistance and it works fine. I agree with people about pushing in and screwing so it doesn't "click" prematurely.

It is. They all are as delivered in 2002 (and a few in early 2003).

I don't understand the reluctance to actually fix the problem. It's very simple to DIY. And for most people who bought the car new, they could have even had it done under warranty. This is also a repair that Honda has covered under "goodwill" for many owners.

But people would rather keep going for years with having to squeeze the cap, getting the occasional CEL, replacing caps, etc.

A new filler neck and new cap, and your car works like it is supposed to work. Like you expect it to work. But OK, it's your car. Do what you want.
