Bobb ross would have said: "Funny littel mistakes.." We all make mistakes from time to time. I am the only exception, i never ever have done somehting like this. Belive me.

You are lucky, you only have wasted a few dollars for the valve and a litle bit of time.

The valvomax thing looks interesting, but would be nice to see some kind of demonstration or close up pictures on the construction.
Also this does not give me any confidence in their product.
Because there are so many factors to consider in providing a torque value (oil pan material, presence of oil, torque wrench calibration), we recommend a good snug fit.

There are youtube videos galore. Both on the Valvomax web site and others on youtube. They do actually give a recommended torque - in one of their videos (see link). They say 8-10 ft lbs .

One thing - it needs a 24 mm deep well socket to install. The Fumoto uses a 22mm. The 22mm fits in the recess on our cars. Not sure about a 24mm??

Another thing - to use this system you need the separate gizmo that screws on and opens the valve. So, you don't want to lose that. Also, if you ever take your car to a shop for an oil change they will be SOL unless you supply that separate gizmo to them. Without it, I see a danger that they might remove the valve itself and then maybe over torque it?

Otherwise, it looks pretty nice to me. Not sure about these valves in general. I won't be doing it till my next oil change and the car is going into storage soon so I have time to ponder. My experience yesterday was pretty traumatic.

There was a half hour or so when I feared the worst.

We have some similar systems here. All of them work with a special adapter to open and close the valve.

Looks pretty good and in steel so wont snap like the soft fumotos https://www.stahlbus.de/lng/en/stahl...ml?language=en
Seems like it would be room behind the cap for a small and strong neodymium magnet as well. Nice if you run a magnetic plug like me.

I think it is a good thing the Fumoto failed before any damage occurred to the oil pan. Lots of "shear" pins do just that to prevent a more critical component failure. I must admit this is the first time I have heard of this kind of designed failure occurring in the Fumoto lineup.

There have been millions of those Fumoto valves made and used over a long period of time so many bugs, if there were any, have been worked out. Purely subjective, but of the eight or so I have installed on cars over a long time, I have never experienced any issue. I would prefer to use something well tested and manufactured over the new kid on the block: Valvomax.

Is should have said it wont snap as easily as the brass ones, still I'm pretty sure it will visit snap city before the threads in the pan are damaged

If your not a knucklehead like me it won't be a problem, on either valve. I just completely spaced out on the torque requirements. I don't think there is a design flaw at all. You are right though, the brass functioned like a sheer pin. If anything its a design success. Phew. Disaster averted.

Luckily the adapter is only 10 bucks; you can get another in no time.

True. But, it will have to wait until my next oil change. Might be summer 2021.
