Yes, that is it. Brass is very soft. See my post 56 above.

Can you confirm my stupid question above?:

"Feel like this is a really dumb question, but I'm going to change my oil this weekend and I think install the ADP-106 and F106SX. Just want to double check that I am thinking of this correctly in terms of torque specs and steps for install.

Install ADP-106 and torque to 18 ft lbs per Fumoto spec
Install F106SX and torque to 18 ft lbs per Fumoto spec as well"

Not to mention drain plug is solid, and valve is hollow.

Torque values are the value that will start to stretch the bolt, so the tension created prevents it coming loose. Much like a split washer creates tension to prevent loosening.

A softer metal only needs a smaller torque value to create that stretch.

Often a rule of thumb is fasteners of similar diameter will have similar torque specs. But that is when fasteners are of similar material, which on a car usually they are. But here of course they obviously are very different.

Don't forget you are also installing the supplied washer from Fumoto. It is not metal (at least the ones I installed on 5 cars) but it acts like a crush washer. The idea is to compress that washer so the valve never backs out. I approached that torque figure from mechanics "feel" but I also got the valve oriented to the position I wanted. That is the beauty of the non metallic washer: you have some wiggle room to get the valve just where you want so the lever is not hanging below the car.

You are not even putting enough torque to stretch the valve's brass threaded stem at all.

If you count all the valves I installed on my cars and kid's cars, I have well over 50 years of perfect Fumoto operation.

Cosmo, do you notice that over time the Fumoto valve weeps a little oil from that fiber washer?

Thanks!

Nope. After the oil change with the engine running I look it over pretty well ( as well as the filter) to make sure there are no leaks. All cars. Never noticed a leak through the fibers. I may have gone over a little to get the desired orientation but that is the beauty of fiber washers: you can compress further without spiking the actual torque because of the "give". It makes it less prone to leak anyway!

Just be real careful not to over torque. See my experience above in this thread. To be clear, I really over did it. My bad. Fortunately the valve is soft and so if you over do it the damage will almost certainly be to the valve, not the oil pan.

I was going to install Femco plug next oil change and they offer multiple lengths. Does anyone know what the threaded length of the OEM plug is?
Thanks

When you order a Fumoto valve, you get the one specifically for your car with any adaptors that are needed. You can choose to have a nipple on it so you can drain directly into a bottle (stop and go as needed) or nothing at all, like mine here.
Fumoto has made and sold millions of these so you cannot argue with success. Made in Japan.

I have the same Fumoto model set up .... extremely satisfied with its performance over the last few years!
