I believe they all end up like this (at least all of the ones I've seen). There woudl have to be a wierd series of events to open the valve that way...you would have to ride over something of the correct height to push it up, then turn the car just right to swing the valve over without letting it drop...pretty damn far fetched, if you ask me.

1 1/2 years so far, no probs. The X-brace actually sort of "protects" the valve from road debris & bumps. Also, note the valve orientation on mine. The lever sticks straight up, and would have to come forward and downward to open up, whereas road debris would be flying upward & backward. I guess I just lucked out in the way the threads on mine were cut.

I would not worry too much about the valve's gate but I would be worried about debris hitting the valve and snapping it off/damaging the the oil pan
This is one of the reason why I am a little bit reluctant to buy this.
