So the difference between PCX and aftermarket is the metal on metal connection to the car?? FYI i never read this when i did my first s2k oil change and right now i have an amsoil filter on. Should i be worried?? I'll try and switch it up in 700 miles (next oil change)

The PCX is NOT fram. Now in us is Filtech, but with all the features of the original JDM. The s2000 oil pressure is higher than most cars and the fit uses a metal to metal final contact. Use the PCX.
I could be wrong.

When did Honda stop using fram to make their filters?

Every PCX- filter I have had from western us dealers (and HTG from the east coast) over the last 3 years has been Japanese or Filtech.

If you can turn your filter by hand it is too loose. I have to use the giant plier kind of wrench (5 USD at harbor freight) to remove a factory filter. The gaskets on many types of filters are too thick (and in the case of fram, fall off). If the search works, look at several posts on how the aftermarket filters unscrew.

That doesn't mean that it *will* fall off, it just means that you should be careful. The benefits of the factory filter out weight the cost for me.

Synthetic oil is supposed to be used. I would imagine it was used before but guess you can't be sure. I wouldn't worry about it if it was my car.
synthetic is optional.

Actually it's not even recommended. But it won't hurt anything as long as it's in spec and will definitely help if you're FI.

My MY04 manual states that synthetic is acceptable.

Use your own judgement. Most people at this site use the PCX filter with excellent results. There are plenty of others that use different filters and have never had a problem. Personally I agree that the PCX is an excellent filter, however I also believe that Amsoil, Mobil 1 and several other filters are excellent as well.

There is the argument that the PCX filter was designed specifically for the S2000, so it has enough throughput to not go into bypass during VTEC. Some other filters have significantly less media surface area and more restrictive media, therefore the argument can be made that you don't really know if the filter is going into bypass unless you're using the PCX filter. But I've seen several Used Oil Analyses with filters other than the PCX and they were pretty good.

If you really want to feel comfortable with your oil and filter setup, get a used oil analysis done when you change your oil.

phrase can be confusing.

"not recommended" = not stated as a recommendation.

as opposed to

"not recommended" = advised not to use.

different meanings from the same phrase.
