Fuel Issues
anyone ever had a misfiring code when using shell vpower? i used it once the other week and it threw the CEL code. i switched to sonoco 94 and it was fine and the CEL went away. anyone else had this issue or could it have been a bad pump?

Shell has had its problems in the past. It doesn't surprise me in the least that continue to have problems.

I stopped using Shell gas back in the 70's when this first came to light. Same goes for Quaker State products. Law suits about poor product performance seem to plague these companies throughout modern history.

Shell fuel in Canada is now Top Tier fuel. Top Tier is fuel is formulated and approved by Honda/Toyota/GM/BMW. I dont think there should be any concern if you use Top Tier fuels.
Top Tier fuels came after thourogh investigations from the above companies in the negative effects of MMT.

..." Why TOP TIER
The intention of the TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline standards is to create a winning situation for gasoline retailers, auto manufacturers and drivers. Currently, many gasoline retailers provide fuels with lower-quality additive packages that can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These lower levels of additives can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness."...

I live in California (SF Bay area) with its notably poor choice of gas. I've had my 2006 Suzuka-blue S2000 since early Feb.
I've compared Chevron 91 with Shell 91. I drew the following conclusions after using each for at least 3 tankfuls in a row.
The Chevron 91 runs smoother especially on the low end, but has less power, which is especially noticable in VTEC.
The Shell 91 explodes into VTEC, pushing me back in my seat. It does not run quite as smoothly on the low end as the Chevron 91.
I think the Chevron 91 gets 1-2 mpg better too, but I prefer the Shell 'cause of the incredible power in VTEC.
