Default Fuel Economy Sucking.

I recently replaced the stock exhaust with a PLM style header, 70mm Berks TP and the Challenger 76mm TA76-S exhaust on My 2006 S2000. After 3 weeks with the exhaust on I'm noticing about 50 miles less per tank in fuel economy. I have had the same exhaust with the J.s Racing 70mm RS single with no difference in fuel economy. I have removed the positive battery terminal to reset the ECU after the install. I have noticed the end of the exhaust has a black residue meaning that the car may be running too rich. I talk with some friends about this and they told me to get the car tuned for this setup. Another friend told me about the winter gas that we all are running and this could be affect the fuel economy. I know the with the larger diameter exhaust pushing the air out would effect this. I really haven't change my driving habits with the new set up either. Also looking at options with a tune from a local shop or just bite the bullet and get the Hondata since I have an 06. Thanks for any input. Later Bama Dave

I would suggest getting a tune considering you already have the ECU ability. With a solid tune you should see better fuel economy than the days your car was stock believe it or not.

Those mods won't make your car run richer, if anything more lean. I agree with getting a tune but not for fuel economy reasons.

Winter gas and cooler temps will kill fuel economy at least 25 percent this time of the year, it happens to us up here every year. As soon as we switch to winter gas I see my fuel economy tank, like a switch turned on.

Check your spark plugs.

Lastly, if you have lost some torque with your mods you may notice a loss in fuel economy at part throttle driving, as you will need to be using more throttle to maintain the same speed. Any loss in part-throttle mid-range torque could do that to the car, you can make more power at WOT and high rpms but lose torque at part-throttle steady state cruising conditions. You might be able to guess if your car has lost any torque judging by how it drives.

No torque issues in the mid range the car has no loss of power at ant throttle inputs. I will check the plugs tomorrow. Thanks man.

Changed out the plugs and reset the ECU. Going the check the mileage when I top off the tank. Talked with the local tuning shop and I will have to purchase a Hondata. Guess its time to spend the money to get the tuning for this setup. Fun fun. Later BD

Okay , they probably weren't running in rich conditions then, I'd be interested in seeing the condition of the gaps.

Its winter time. You lost "50 miles per tank"...but you haven't posted or calculated MPG numbers.
