Default Fuel cutoff / rev limiter / something bad @ 6-7k

Was late getting to work this morning so had to step on the gas. Normally I wait for the car to warm up before doing that. Well, this morning I had quite the surprise. The engine hit some kind of cutoff at around 6-7k rpm. I was only able to replicate it one other time (twice total) then ran out of road and time to see what the deal is (hard to go slow at that rpm).

I'm hoping there's a common issue people might know about here. I'm hoping even more there's an easy (aka inexpensive) fix.

Felt just like my old Saab 9-3 turbo when it's bypass valve went bad. The turbo would hit max boost and the fuel would cut off as a safety measure. Quite unsettling.

[EDIT] Ok I see other posts on this now. Sorry. Wow, what a strange safety feature. I guess the good side is that this will give me an excuse to keep testing high revs when the engine is warm. ;-)

you need at least 2 bars to get into vtec or it'll cut the fuel and it'll seem like ur engine shuts off... happens to me when i'm in a hurry and forget that my car isn't warmed up while going onto the highway

The car needs to be a certain temperature for VTEC to operate, and cuts fuel @ 6-7 to keep you from revving the cold motor too high. In my car VTEC starts working between 2-3 bars on the temp guage.

U hit the temperature WALL
You are now a true S2000 owner. You will keep this title as long as you dont make the same mistake again

I remember the wall. Happened 5 years ago during the first week I had my S2K. Relax people, I bought it used so the engine was fully broken in

But yeah, I freaked out and as soon as I've seen one bar in the temp gauge then I knew.

Anyhow, I only recommend going into vtec about 10 mins AFTER you've reached 3 bars and not before. The oil is still warm even at 3 bars. Oil takes longer than coolant to reach operating temp. Keep that in mind.

I've never hit that wall because I wouldn't ever rev a cold motor that high...
But hey, at least nothing's wrong. Bet it had you shook up for a minute

Someone close this thread before more people admit to have done this
