I do get a single click when starting to go forward after reversing, which I always assumed was brake pads. If it's the axle nut, is there any harm in just ignoring the click?

Ah, should have said this in the first place. For now, concentrate on the hub area and that nut. However, if left uncorrected, this "could" slowly begin to affect the way the CV works.
The thing I do not understand is, how will it make the CV joint go bad? If the axle nut needs to be retorqued, why on earth is it so tight right now?

First, we don't know why the nut is so tight. I made some conjecture about this earlier. The reasons why could be many and some of those "might" have an affect on how the axle rides in the hub. We know that lowering a car "can" have an adverse effect on the CVs. Who really knows what's going on with your car? If there is an alteration in the way the axle sits in the hub, this could affect the way the CV functions. Notice I'm using a lot of "mights", "coulds" and "cans"? I'm not there, so I can't say anything for sure.

Probably no immediate need for concern, but you should keep an ear on it. Usually, its going in reverse and stopping that produces the single click when the brake pads "set" themselves in their holders. It's not impossible for them to do it when doing it your way.

I'm seeing more and more this axle nut issue, and it's destroying all sorts of stuff. I would strongly recommend all s2k owners to get it done, noise or not.

Have a read through this thread. You'll be more aware of what is going on, consequences, and how to do it up.

When you say get it done, what are you refering to?

I retorqued it to 220 and greased the rear of the nut that sits on the hub. I am still getting the pop/clicky noise.

When I put the axle nut back on... and torqued it to 220, the stake mark was not in the same spot.. Does the axle nut go on differently everytime in relation to the stake mark?

Should I try to torque it to more than 220? I think it was more then 220 when I was taking it off.

I think Billman was appealing to other owners who have not had it done yet.
In your case, I'm afraid the damage may have already been done and no amount of torquing now will fix your problem. You need to go in there and fix what's been damaged.

So when you say the damage has most likely been done, do you think hub and wheel bearing? Or do you think CV axle?

Its not too bad.. Im sure I could drive like this for 5k miles easy without a problem, but id like to fix it asap anyways.
