Cut the 4 corners of the plate off with tinsnips, at a diagonal.

Mounted the plate with white zip-ties
It'll be interesting to see if they don't hassle you for this. In NY, the plate has to be bolted in place. I believe it is also illegal to alter the plate in any way.

You'll notice in my avitar that I don't run one. It helps to be an older guy, no mods, and a color that doesn't attract attention. I haven't had a plate on the front of my cars since 1985. No tickets for it either. (knocking on wood)

Mounting the plate in the grill opening has been tried numerous times over the years. Bottom line is too much airflow is blocked resulting in overheating.

I think I saw a picture some time ago where a member "Swiss Cheese'd" , drilled numerous little holes in their plate to get better airflow

It will depend upon where and how you drive. With high ambient temps, altitude, or heavy loads the cooling system needs full airflow.
Yes...CA cops drool at the opportunity to give you a ticket for no front plate.

I live in the SF Bay Area and had mine mounted in the center of the grill without any over heating problems even jetting up to Tahoe in the summer. Just use the original frame, and with zip-ties, you can secure it to the grill. Then reattach your plate. Pretty easy.

For grins, and too see what the CHP has to say about it, I've bent it and now have it formed over the lower lip and used a high adhesive double stick foam tape to hold it in place. I'll try to post a picture.

OK, compared to Slalom44's mount, mine takes less area, since I folded back the edges of my plate, and it leans back at the top, and has a gap of almost 2" at bottom edge to let more air pass. I've been watching temp gauge, no apparent change - 8 bars, ~ 1/3 from cold end of range. But it's fall & not very hot heree now.

I can easily redo the lower (midpoint) mounts with little shims behind the plate to make it lean back more to let even more air pass. May do that later after I've got it signed off.

Just found out I can't post pics b/c I'm still a "guest".

OK, I finally looked into this membership thing, found out I needed to pay dues, did, so now I can post pics of my front plate in-grill mount. Here they are.
