Front Lower Subframe Install
Hey guys...well I have some major issues with my s2k...i ran over a huge rock that i could not avoid causing some major damage to my front lower subframe. I think it needs to be replaced but before I take it to a body shop I wanted to know if the front lower subframe needs to be welded back into place or if it just needs some nwe subframe bolts? Also does the engine have to be removed? Just curious as this might cost me a grip to replace....below are some pics of the damage...let me know what you guys think
As you can see in the pics my x-brace caused all of the damage and is torn from the subframe...also when i turn my wheel i get a loud clicking noise from the undercarriage....

OK.
Relax.
No welding required. Front subframe is replacement is DIY. Make sure you get new gussets as well
The clicking noise. That's probably because the subframe is no longer attached to the body. And where the bolt was ripped out is right where the lower control arm connects to it. This connects to the knuckle, which is what the steering rack is connected to.
If you buy the subframe on ebay (search: s2000 front cross member sub frame) it should cost you about $250. If you order through www.hondaautomotiveparts.com then about $500.
So, if you buy sub frame on ebay, and DIY, then about $350 (including shipping, gussets and bolts from Majestic Honda).
If you order all the parts from Majestic, and have it installed, then probably about $800.

If I was doing the work, and I had access to a lift, I will disconection everything from the motor and drop the motor and subframe together. Then swap the motor onto the new subframe and drop the car back down.
I have pulled motors like this several times. It is easy and can be done quickly. I could do it in less than a day.
