one of my employees went to check out an 02. said it was in immaculate condition.
the owner was apparently super ocd, car was super clean, etc.
owner told him that the car had NEVER been taken above 6k.
he (employee) test drove, started to hit vtec, and the owner flipped out..he backed off at 7k, and the owner apparently said to him "wow, sounds great at high revs, never heard it before."
now..assuming (here's the big assumption,) that this guy isn't lying for some odd reason..
what are the downsides of buying a car that has been babied to the extreme? any reason he should walk away from a car in immaculate shape, for a good price?
i had the reaction that this HAS to be a bad thing for this motor, but I don't have the slightest idea why. Anyone with real knowledge on the issue? Can't imagine this has ever come up before.
thanks!

Car should be fine. Ever hear about a "Ferrari tune-up"? The story goes that people would buy Ferraris and keep them as garage queens - they'd be driven only one- or two-thousand miles at slow speeds each year. After a while they'd run like crap and the owner would take them to the dealer and complain. The fix? The mechanic would take it out back and drive the snot out of it for a few miles. This was back in the days of carbueration and mechanical fuel injection - I think the explanation was that running the car only at low temps periodically led to deposits forming on the plugs and other bits of the combustion chamber. Getting the engine good and hot at high rpms cleaned things out. These days, which strict polution regulations and precise computer controlled fuel and ignition, that sort of thing just doesn't happen anymore.
However, if you're really worried, it wouldn't hurt to take out one of the spark plugs and examine it. If it's clean, you're good to go IMO.
A friend of mine has an RSX Type S. I don't think he's ever gone above 4000 rpm.
Some people are just like that.

If he NEVER Vtec'ed it he should bought a miata.
(despite the fact most self-respecting men wouldnt be caught dead in a stock miata) Any self respecting S2000 owner wouldn't NOT vtec their car. Thats just wierd.
I drove the snot out of my car with the sales guy in it. How exactlly do you merge onto a highway without hitting Vtec? Seems like it would take really good timing lol
I would go for it either way, take it to a mechanic and make sure everything is kosher, who cares how he drove it if he took good care of it right?
