A socket extension is a poor substitute for a decent stethescope. Whatever you are using to grasp the bar is dampening a bunch of the vibrations you are trying to listen for.

Next step is to disassemble to look for the cause. But without pinpointing area you are forced to disassemble everything.

I like the suggestion of oil pump drive chain slap due to the aknowledged stripped block threads issue.

Well after talking to Endyn, we've decided that the block was probably a bomb from the get go, the balancing of the crank they did by welding it near cylinder 3 is a no-no with these engines and honestly is quite an archaic technique to balancing our cranks that never really need rebalancing to begin with.

I'll probably be having my original block with 160k miles on it entirely rebuilt by Endyn, so it will be done right and will have quality parts. When we install that block we'll take this one out and figure out what was going on with it

That blows... Thanks for the post though, your videos sounded exactly like my car does. I've about come to the conclusion that my crank is the problem as well, I have checked everything people have mentioned from valves to chain slap. Everything is perfect on mine. The only thing I can't see is the main bearings on the crank. Tear apart again, if the car didn't drive so amazing I would sell it. The problem is that it drives so well.... lol Peace.

This..

A socket extension is like using the stethoscope with earplugs

I think the crank is iron, not steel, but regardless, welding weight onto the crank is actually common practice and has been done successfully for a very long time. But, although it's not ideal, it has to be done right.
