thanks - but I already have the rytek - and I went with a different filter (one with the open front end pointing towards the faux duct in the bumper). The rytek works perfectly for this type of filter.

spoon, what's your guesstimate on the extra surface area with those filters compared to some of the others (stock, K&N, etc.)?

surface area of the open top filter is roughly the same as the longer K&N with the sealed top. I just figure the filter opening pointing at the bumper opening is a better config. The filter I ordered is the one from extrememotorsports.com - it should be hidden under the shiedl completly - although you could make your own shield or easily extend the shield to cover the longer K&N that comes with the 4ig

filter shows up monday - so right now I have the new silicone couplers on - but the heat shield is sitting until i can do everythign at once. Will post pics as soon as I get the filter.

Do these need to be oiled? I'm looking for a shorter filter than what I currently have, and I don't want to start oiling one. I also don't want to lose surface area unless I have to...any idea what the filtration capability of those things are, like what particle size?

yes - it still has to be oiled - its a K&N style filter (may even be made by them)
