Default Found Cause Of Car Shimmy

Well, I finally got my 01 on the lift Friday to check the suspension for cause of the shakes. It appears I have a broken left rear axle. I also may have to replace the whole rear hub assembly too as the hub bearing is worn out. My mechanic said he wasnt sure if the bearing could just be pressed out, but he remembered working on a Civic before with worn hub bearing and the whole assembly had to be replaced. Can someone tell me if the hub bearing can be pressed out or do I have to replace the whole assembly. I remember reading a thread discussing the broken left rear axle but the search didnt pull it up. Need some light shined on this.

Yes, the bearing can be pressed in and out and replaced.

You should inspect the hub after removing the bearing. While the bearing can be pressed out, in many cases the hub turns out to have been damaged by the bad bearing. From what I recall the hub isn't that expensive so if it looks like it might be damaged it may be better to err on the side of caution and replace it anyways.

Shameless plug. We sell those parts at a good discount if it turns out you need them.

Damn Lude, just saw your post. I would have came out better had I read that before I ordered parts from shop in my town. I should have known to check online before I ordered here in town.
