forgot silicone when replacing headgasket!

^ I have to agree with the post above. I've seen cars come into the shop looking like the damn Exxon Valdez because no sealant was used on machined surfaces, such as timing chain covers, camshaft end cam caps, valve cover gaskets where they form a 180 degree arch, etc etc. Honestly, I would not risk it. My .02.

if you haven't ran the engine yet, the headgasket probably hasn't sealed yet solely to torque. it's probably safe to take it apart and apply the silicone for peace of mind. That's just my 2 cents on it. why risk anything when you don't have to (since you caught it). At worst you're looking at taking it apart again and a new gasket. It'll be worth it in the end, wouldn't you agree?

Yeah true... I guess the way it is now, I can either waste a $200 gasket for peace of mind, or I can run it and if it leaks then I will be out a $200 gasket and a couple hours of tear down.... so I guess ill see what happens. If it leaks oil then o well, I haven't lost much more

[QUOTE=bpaspi,Jan 16 2011, 03:03 AM] I didn't say I only put 4 engines together. I posted that I have build 4 S2000 engines.
