Default Fluid Hysteria and Confusion

It seems that many S2000 owners are using different fluids and various oil weights in their engines, transmissions, and rear diffs. Many seem confused about what diff and tranny oil to use. I thought it might be interesting to see what various brands and weights people are actually using.

I live in Northern Virginia and here is what I am using:

Engine- 10-30 Redline synthetic
Tranny- Honda OEM tranny fluid
Rear Diff- Mobil 1 75/90w

Myself ......................
Mobil 1 10W30 in the engine - changed every 3000 miles.
Honda MTF in the tranny - changed annually (approx. 10K miles).
Mobil 1 75W90 in the diff - changed with tranny.

Honolulu HI.

Motor Oil: Castrol Syntec 10W30 <--coz that's what it says to use on the cap. interval every 4 months eazy to track, and change every April, August, and Dec regardless that comes out to about 4000mi for me. I picked Castrol because of Test #7 here RR comparison. hopefully it will decrease the probability of the #4 piston problem.

Diff: Mobil 1 75W90 r reason- coz Xviper show had a DIY thread that i liked and just followed what he recommended. interval 10,000 mi - 1 year

Tranny: haven't changed yet... i'll chang it at 30,000 with the GM sycromesh FM stuff. in about a month. I think i should have changed it earlier, but my transmission doesn't have any of the problems that are currently the reason people change it. since xviper says he changes his once a year i might start doing that too. depending how hard it is to get the car up on jack stands.

just wanted to post coz i wanna see what else everybody does.

Engine: Mobil1 10W-30 full synthetic - Changed 4 times per year

Transmission: Honda MTF (whatever viscosity it is ) - Changed once a year

Differential: LE 607 SAE 90 - Changed once a year

The mileage will likely drop on the S since I'll likely buy the new E90 BMW when it's released as a daily driver... but regardless I'll still change the fluids at those intervals.

Right now I get about 10k miles a year on her.

Motor = Mobil1 Synth 10w30, changed every 5k miles

Tranny = Redline MTL, changed every 30k (usually less)

Diff = Mobil1 Synth 75w90, changed every 15k (osually less)

There are alot of choices, but the most important thing is that we are doing it to begin with. We are sure to have a healthier car because of it.

p.s. Alot of my customers want/get Redline 75w90 in the diff as well. I have not witnessed a difference in wear characteristics between M1 or Redline. I HAVE seen alot less shavings/wear in both the tranny and diff after switching over to the synthetics, as witnessed by the Spoon mag plugs some of us use.
