Default flat spot under load

I have noticed recently that my car "flat spots2 intermittently when under full throttle. this normally lasts for a second or 2 then clears. It happens at any revs and any speed. any ideas.???? MAP sensor maybe?

Very possibly. You can try to check this. Unclip the MAP harness and vigorously clip it back in. If this sorts out your problem or at least helps to alleviate it, you have your answer. Honda came out with a TSB for a new MAP sensor and a new securing system for it.

Have you considered that it might be the clutch slipping?

Xviper- Cheers, will try this later
SIIK2NR-I've never noticed the clutch slip at all. It feels more like someone is holding thier foot on the brake and then they suddenly release it.

From your last description, I think you can rule out clutch slip. Clutch slip will result in a +change in rpm without the accompanying +change in road speed. It sounds like your situation is related to the metering of air or fuel or both and the main culprit for this is the MAP with a small chance it could also be timing (ECU). It's "similar" to a momentary "bog" we would feel during heat soak on a hot summer day. What you describe is also similar to the "bog" we used to get on a 4-barrel carbed car when the secondary barrels are "tied" to the primaries. The engine just doesn't know what to do with all that fuel and hesitates for a split second.
On a fuel injected car, we would see this as a A/F metering glitch.

My car was doing the same thing you describe, 2 of 4 spark plugs had worked loose. If a MAP whack doesn't fix it check your plugs with a torque wrench.

Good eye. I just noticed the model year of his car. He should have gotten the spark plug recall by now. If not, who knows what condition those plugs are in.

Check your oil too

If you're very low (2.5 plus quarts) the VTEC will cut out intermittently.
What happens next you won't like.

This is first hand experience with my latest customer.

After that, I second the MAP

My car does this also, I've whacked my map sensor so many times it whacked me back last time. I'll check the plugs but I doubt that's the problem because I get random stalls and a flickering dash as well.
