Default Flashing CEL!

So I took the S2K out for a little road trip and about an hour and a half in my CEL started flashed and I immediately felt the car misfiring. This happened while I was cruising on the highway at a steady 65 mph on 6th gear very abruptly so this is most definitely not an over-revving issue. There was no loud noise, no clunking, no oil leaking (I had checked all fluids prior to this trip), the car did not try to die or stall out, it was just a very sudden misfiring while driving. I pulled over ASAP and noticed the car had a rough idle. I have since then had the car towed and sent to a shop but if anyone else has had a similar experience or can chime into what may be wrong I will take any advice/ help I can get.

Thanks,

-Jo

Sounds like a coil pack went out.

Using the INJECTOR connectors, disconnect them one at a time to pinpoint the failing cylinder. Once located, LEAVE it disconnected until the problem is resolved. Leaving the injector off will prevent washing of the cylinder and damage, so you can drive the car off the freeway, to safety, etc.

Same thing happened to me last week. I pulled out my OBDII scan tool and got the code P1399. I replaced all my coil packs and the problem went away. I was way past due for new coil packs anyway. I was still running on the originals.

How long do coil packs on S2000 normally last? Never heard of routinely changing them, like you do with spark plugs.

Thanks!

I've noticed all my Hondas tend to have a coil start to crap out around 100k miles -- what are your guys' experiences?

@Billman, when you say disconnect the [fuel] injector on the failing cylinder and driving off to safety, that is with [all] the coil packs still connected and the [fuel] injector disconnected?

If that is the case it may be my coilpack. I am at 93K miles on my 00 AP1.

Update: I actually just got a call back from the shop and they say that I am misfiring on cylinders 1 and 3. The last time I was getting a misfire on those cylinders I had a burnt valve... yikes. Hopefully its just the coilpacks but we'll see.

My original coil packs lasted 380,000 miles. These were mostly highway miles.
