Default Fixing A Valve Cover Oil Leak.....

My 02 has a valve cover oil leak, I went to the dealer to get a new valve cover gasket and the parts guy told me I have to buy an entire new valve cover - $400 clams. They can't sell me a gasket only. On other Hondas I only needed to buy a new gasket and gasket sealer, this guy tells me they don't offer them seperately, but they do sell the spark plug gaskets. Very strange.

Anyone has suggestions on how to fix this leak without having to purchase an entire valve cover ?, maybe remove the stock one and reinstall it with gasket sealer ?. Open to any opinions on this. thanks very much.

That's bs. Go buy a gasket.
you don't need gasket sealer either.

gasket will cost you from 15 to 25 bucks or so.

google
Honda s2000 valve cover gasket and take your pick.

ps

Don't go to that dealer for service...that's a total complete attempted RIPOFF

thanks for the quick replies, that was my feeling exactly, I questioned the parts guy several times as it just doesn't make any sense to not sell a gasket. What a moron, I will definitely avoid them for future parts.

Thanks for the information on this , I will search out a different source of the gasket locally. Your replies have been very helpful and I feel much better knowing that. Much appreciated

I wanted to do a valve clearance inspection/adjustment so I was thinking of just taking it off, cleaning it up, and reinstalling it to proper torque. Might try that first and just replace the spark plug gaskets at the same time.

thanks for all of the replies. This forum is a great source of help. I'm getting the feeling that people are going to try and rip me off for parts just because I drive an s2000 just days after owning my first one. The dealer also wanted $265.00 for floor mats, we only have two mats and they are tiny as heck, I'm learning quick .
