First oil change coming up... or is it?
3955km (~2470miles) on the odometer on my '06.
When I was at my dealership for the 1,000km check-up, they told me not to forget to come back at 5,000kms (3125mi) for my first oil change.
This doesn't make sense, does it?
Considering this is break-in oil, there may be pieces in there clogging up the filter, shavings, whatnot; so if the oil change makes sense, will there be any benefits to changing the oil filter along with it?
By the way, I've decided to stick with dino oil -- what brands do you suggest? Mobil only has 2, and one of those is for high-mileage engines, doesn't really seem to apply.

What does your Oil Life Remaining Light Reminder Thingy say?
If that is still way more then 30% or so at 3125 miles then drive on IMO.
No syn oil for the first 7500 miles anyway IIRC.
Any good dino API SL/SM will do I guess.
Also for topping up the oil when needed.
(you have been checking oil level, haven't you?)

I've read the manual cover to cover and can't find the "Oil Life Remaning Light Reminder Thingy" or anything related, are you guys sure the EUDM '06 has this feature? (we don't have cruise control either, for instance)
Under "break-in", the manual lists 3 things:
-dont go past 5,500 for 600 miles.
-dont brake hard for 300 miles.
-dont change oil until interval given in maintainence schedule.
And yes, I've been checking the oil every week.

I was under the impression you were living in the US.
I don't know if EU models have that "Oil life" feature.
Anyway...
How much more answer do you need?
Stick to your manual IMO
IIRC the "severe" maintenance schedule could tell you to change oil at 5000 km.
Its up to you to decide to follow the normal or severe schedule.
Depending on the way you drive your car and where your car is driven.
The conditions that "have to be met" to follow the severe schedule are listed.
Have FUN driving your S2000!

Your bolded statement would pretty much answer the question you asked. If you don't have the "oil minder", then follow what the manual says for service. Don't listen to the service guy. They typically don't know much about S2000s and treat them like they do Accords and Civics.
