i change mine when the oil minder gets to 20-30%. 3 changes already done, at 11700 miles, and just put MOBIL 1 in at the last change. was using castrol gtx 10w30 before that.

I've put in 0w40. I wanted 0w50 but they were out of it With the winters here you can't get away with putting in 10w oil in a car like S2k

Please don't use anything heavier than 40W. 0W-50

Why? I was planning to put in 10w60 actually, but then i figured that i'd have to change it back to 0w40 in winter...

On a brand new car I've always changed the oil at 300 miles.

I do this to make sure all the lubricants and any pieces of metal left in the car after the build are removed.

Also that is when I switch from conventional oil to synthetic. Never bad to be over cautious... then I run them like all hell.

Why? Are you under the mistaken impression that a large second number equals better oil?

To the OP...every 5,000 miles with conventional or every 10,000 with synthetic. Any sooner is waste and excess.

No. I'm under impression that higher viscosity index and higher tolerance to high temperatures equals better oil.

Your impression is mistaken. Nowhere does Honda specify anything heavier than 5W-40 for the S2000. Higher viscosities will do little more than slow the flow of oil through your engine. Lighter viscosities have good shear resistance, flow, and film strength to protect well. Don't overthink things.

Well I'm not really sure you even understand the elementary basics of oil when you make a comment like this.

10W oil? There is no 10 weight oil in the equation here. The first number is what weight the oil will act like when cold, while the second number is the actual weight of the oil. You do not need a 50 weight oil in a four banger. The F20/F22 is not an Enzo motor in need of Shell Helix 0W-60. Too high a viscosity is actually detrimental to a motor. It will slow down revs and increase internal engine temperatures drastically.

Saying "you can't get away with putting 10w oil in a car like the S2000" because of winter is simply beyond absurd. Whatever 0 cold weight oil you are using is going to be at the thickness of a 10 cold weight within one minute of you turning over your motor. To imply that an extra 10 cold weight is going to have negative effects on your motor is ignorance by definition, unless you just happen to have the only S2000 in Antarctica.

Why is it that there are always people that think there is something "better" than what Honda engineers suggest?

10W/30, 5W/30, 5W/40 are the only oil choices one should consider for the S2000.

Maybe i'm not. I'm not posing as an expert here, geez!

unless you just happen to have the only S2000 in Antarctica.
Winters here are not exactly like those in US. -25C is not uncommon and the car stays outside all the time (no indoor parking). Even my '06 Civic required about 5 minutes warm up before the revs started to drop... And that used 5w40 oil. If you drove it from the start in these conditions you could lose the warranty.

Of course there is. No engineer can suggest "best" solution for all the situations, climates and driving styles. 0w50 oil was actually suggested by the dealer in accordance to our climate and my driving pattern (track days constantly)
