Then there is the advice by Honda (pg. 107) "Do not chage the oil before scheduled maintaince time".
I took this literally and did my first change at 5975. There have been hints that the breakin in oil is a special formulation.
I repaced with dino oil which I will next replace with synthetic at 10,000.
I'm not going to tout this routine as "the way" but just another viewpoint
that may or may not be of benefit.

so... what happens if i change over to synthetic before 10k is up... coz i didnt know until after i already changed
Just kidding, I doubt anything bad will happen. I think the idea was that the parts break in completely and everything is seated and what not before using the syn because maybe it is too smooth and won't allow propper break in. Again, I am just trying to remember what I read and guessing a bit too. I think it is OK.

Man, another question from an 06+ owner asking when to change his oil. What's your OLM say? Follow that.
Lets clear up some old rumors.
1. You car isn't equipped with a "special break-in oil"
2. Your OLM uses some very accurate methods to determine oil life, so use it (I'd post a link but I've already done that a few times and I'm tired of doing it everytime I read one of these threads asking the same questions over and over and over...)
3. Switching to synthetic before that magic 10000 mile mark won't hurt a thing. That's like saying don't take a swim for an hour if you just ate something. Complete

I would change the oil when your oil minder says to change the oil.
3,750 is for extreme conditions. 7,500 is for regular conditions. It's in your manual. For some reason, everyone thinks that they always drive under extreme conditions and switch at the first interval. Or they change at 3k miles because marketers told them to.
When it's time to change, use Honda's PCX filter and a dino oil (Havoline is well regarded in the oil journals here). Filter is available at your dealer or online at hardtopguy.com or handaccessories.com.
I switched to mobil 1 synthetic after 10k miles. Some people will change their transmission fluid and differential fluid pretty early as well, say at the 2nd oil change...supposedly to remove all the metal shaving build-up from break-in.

I weighed into this pi$$ing contest a while back. My owners manual says nothing about only using dino untill 10k. As a matter of fact it states that synth is acceptable. I am a low miler and changed to synth at one year with 1500 miles on it. Oh the catterwalling, "You will burn oil! You will not get max HP. You will wear out the engine without the MAGICAL FACTORY FILL!!!" I called B.S. and I can tell you that I have NEVER had to add oil between changes. As far as max HP, my last ticket still hurts!

Someone needs to pull up that old honda tech bulletin about not using synthetic oil in our engines before 10k.
AP2s have little to no consumption for the vast majority of users (I think someone even made a poll on here about oil use in an AP2). My '03 AP1 doesn't burn a drop when I change the oil between 4-6k miles (knock on wood).
