Finally Got My s2k!
#21
Thank you everyone for all great advices!!!
I just couldn't get any picture as it currently sits at my friend's garaged house. But will post them soon!!!
I have decided to get:
- Synthetic Mobil 1 Oil & OEM Filter Change.
- Honda Genuine Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill.
- Amsoil 75W-110 Rear Differential Fluid Drain and Fill.
- Honda Genuine Brake Fluid Flush.
- Rear Axle Nut (TSB) Readjustment.
- Honda Genuine Gear Fluid Drain Replaced.
For now until I can save more money to do more up to date work.
Im not savvy with craftsmanship and plan to take it to local mechanic with all parts I want.
But are there things you guys think that it's recommended to do at dealer?
(Ie: honda dealer won't use my Amsoil rear diff fluid right? Nor necessarily use Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil. But local mechanic might not be aware of Rear Axle Nut readjustment?)
I live in Los Angeles. Does anyone know of S2K Specialy mechanic shop near?)
Thanks again for helping this poor newbie out!

DO NOT USE FULL SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL JUST YET. Wait after 7,500 miles before you change it to synthetic. This is very important.

Never mind... I just checked up on it and found out as to why.
Thank you! May have just saved my s2k!!!
But from what I do know. The dealer who sold it to me have changed oil and filter with 10W-30? Is this going to cause problem?

Ok. Just spoke with my Sales Rep.
He notified me that it was changed with synthetic oil.
Can anyone tell me what I should do? Go back tomorrow and do it with conventional? Or.........
Help please!

Honda uses a break in oil similar to what Mercedes uses. It is a mineral oil with molybdenum disulfide which is a dissolved lubricant. Since your dealer hosed up, ask them to order some Honda break in oil. If that fails go to Mercedes. You can also check on line. I found this with well know brand names. A little more digging on your part and you should find some no problem.
Mobil Industrial Lubricants - Fairfax, VA
Distributor, Manufacturer, Custom Manufacturer
Custom manufacturer of oils made from molybdenum disulfide. Oils are available with 13.8 cSt to 130 cSt centistokes, 0.98 percent sulfated ash, 8.6 mg KOH/g chemical potassium hydroxide, minus 18 degrees C pour temperature, 264 degrees C flash point & 0.89 kg/L density at 15 degrees C temperature. Features of oils include corrosion resistance, oxidation & chemical stability anti-wear & anti-scuff, detergent & dispersant properties. Oils are suitable for gas engines, spark ignited four-stroke cycle gas engines & reciprocating compressors.
Brand Names: Exxon, ExxonMobil, Flexon, Mobil, Telura

congrats, looks like everyone has mostly covered every thing but try this for your soft top... pull down on the handle up by the light and see if barely any pressure makes the noise go away. Could be a slight seal leak or the striker just needs to be tightened a bit.
As for the transmission noise... I'd drop that and replace it with new honda OEM oil. As a matter of fact I'd drop all the fluids and replace with OEM til the car is past 15000 miles. As stated, it hasn't been driven too much so I'd really let those minerals in non synthetic sink into the metals of your diff/trans/engine and give the car a good break in. Enjoy man, I bet it's cherry!
