congratulations...beautiful job.
I've followed the trials and tribulations of lots of others on here who have tried to do similar set ups. I don't know what the owner's end use is for their car, but I'd like to be updated occasionally on it and what they are doing with it. Especially as you make changes to the drivetrain.

really nice looking job....

I would love to go race on salt. No tickets, no objects in the way to hit.
Unfortunatly the car is not mine.

anybody noticed the color? hrmmm? this is proof positive that the Dark Side rules!!

but if anybody is curious, I ran some #s as to what this setup would've put out in the other colors:
Silverstone: 490hp <-- still quite respectable
Red: 485hp
Sebring Silver: 482hp
White: 400hp
Spa Yellow: 178hp <-- not a typo!

for those of you overseas MC Blue gets 492hp, but...

Berlina Black is still-- and always will be-- the most powerful color.

EDIT: oh yeah, sorry Dubai. I ran the #s for your Orange S and it came out to 481hp. don't be mad at me, the #s don't lie! it's not like I make this stuff up!

Hybrid,

Bummer, Dude. Well start saving and building your own ride, okay. It's racing the way it was meant to be. I mean the guy I bought my liner from held the world record I was trying to beat. He flew out from Baltimore to help me use "his" record holding car to break his record.

And Tritium, yeah they do go into three axis, but rarely. The bad news about the salt is the traction is about like wet asphalt (think 250 mph on a wet street). The good news about the salt is the traction is about like wet asphalt. When your highboy 32 Ford roadster with a CG about 22" in the air spins, it mostly just spins like it would on a big wet parking lot, it doesn't dig in and start the 3 axis thing. Mostly...

The salt is almost as hard as asphalt. To hold your blue plastic tarp to the ground (prevents spills onto the salt) many guys use sheetrock screws and just screw them into the salt. Oh yeah, and then there's the rust. Rust like you've never seen. I think my gold fillings rusted after I was out there for a few days.

Anyway there are three meets in 2004. August, September, and October. August is THE SCENE. 400 cars, 4000 to 6000 folks, news crews, helicopters. September is run by a different organization who will let you run your car with only a few mods. Only about 100 cars and 500 people. Probably the best best if you just want to see what it's like to leave your foot in it. October is the month for speed. About 20 to 25 degrees cooler than August, 80 t0 100 cars. Late in the week you can do laps.

Come out and watch what I think is the World's Fastest Honda run.

ciao,

Jim Knapp

Sorry, Tritium,

I neglected to respond to a few things. My car is a streamliner, a purpose built race car designed to do only one thing, go as fast as possible, period. The reason I am in this forum is because the motor I run is a bone stock S2000 motor and tranny. The guy I bought the car from originally ran a highly modified 2 liter Cosworth Vega motor and ran 193mph. I bought the car from his barn where it had been sitting rusting for about eight years, restored it, adapted the S2000 to it, modified the roll cage and frame so I could fit (he's about 4" shorter than I am), added some more modern safety items, and ran it.

Up on two wheels? Yeah, I worry about that a little. I have only a 14" rear tread. Your sports car would really have to go a long ways off course, like hundreds of yards, to even think of flipping. If you jerked the wheel the car would just spin, again, it's like wet asphalt.

And turning radius? I think my liner's is about 150 yards. You know the 1/4 mile track that runs around most football fields? I can't even get close to making that corner without "backing and filling".

Keep the rubber side down,

Jim

haha, my money is all in this ride.

I can actually use this power to the ground with slicks two stepping off the line dropping the clutch at 8000rpm.

TOO COOL!!

Sooooo....

How big's the motor? 1500 cc's or so? Possibly in H/BCC 1000-1500 cc's / Blown Gas Competition Coupe. POSSIBLY. I've only spent a couple of minutes researching it. Record 163.808 set in 1990. You already race it so know about fire systems, etc. If the cage is at least 1 1/2" .125 wall tubing (less if Chrome Moly), and if you have the proper fire suit, put on some different tires ($125 to $350 apiece), do a few Bonneville specific rules changes, maybe some lead bolted to the front end for traction and you're on the salt!

Later,

Jim
