Thumbs up Figure this out

When I leave my S parked on an inclined driveway with the front being higher, it seems like I have trouble making it go into reverse. I never force the gear. I can go through 1st-6th no problem but putting it in reverse it doesn't want to go. I can let the car go back in neutral and then for some reason closer to level ground it will go easier into reverse. Why the heck is it doing this?

One other question when I am downshifting from third to second at a low rpm and speed it sometimes doesn't want to go into second. Again I have never forced it into second. My gears do not grind and other than the two mentioned above I have not had any problems.

Please help me out, thanks.

i dunno, if i have trouble engaging a gear I'll move the shifter back to neutral real quick let the pressure off the clutch for a second, depress the clutch pedal and try it again, usually never gives me trouble twice.

I bought the car used. I went to get the fluid changed because I didn't know what the other owner had. The dealer told me the fluid looked very clean and that he wouldn't reccommend changing it.

So, how long or how many miles ago did you buy the car?

i know on my h22 tranny, i had to go first then reverse. personally, in the S after i went to redline mtl tranny fluid all gears became butta. try going into first, then reverse. also, if its really cold where you are, could be the tranny fluid is cold and reverse is stingy.

I guarantee the dealer never looked at your fluid. Unless he siphoned it out, there's no way to see that the fluid looked "very clean" without letting some out the drain. Anytime you let some out of the drain (enough to determine that it's "very clean"), you should top it off... and I doubt he did.

I suspect the dealer just didn't feel like doing a tranny fluid change that day, so he said yours was "very clean" and sent you packing. Regardless, I'd recommend changing it just so you know exactly when it was changed and what type of fluid was used.

For your original question.. sorry, I have no idea what's going on. Do you leave the car in a gear when parked on an incline? If so, which gear?
